The Athlone Chamber and Athlone Promoting Workplace Equality have been working for the last year on promoting equality and diversity in the workplace. Attitudes to equality in the Workplace, are often seen in a negative light and portrayed negatively in the media and the entire area is viewed by some employers as a primary threat resulting in litigation and prosecution. The Athlone Promoting Workplace Equality Steering Group wishes to dispel this myth by taking a more positive and proactive approach. We never seem to hear the good will stories or the success stories and we know there are lots of good experiences in Athlone. We hope to get case studies done on all 9 grounds of equality which portray a positive story of people working and living in Athlone with good news’ stories to tell.

Below is a list of the 9 Grounds of Equality, which we aim to get case studies on.

1. Ageism
2. Racism
3. Religion
4. Sexual Orientation
5. Family status
6. Disability
7. Gender
8. Member of Travelling Committee
9. Marital status

Once we have received these positive case studies back, we aim have the studies published in a brochure/leaflet, these will then be launched, and they will also appear on our website and linked to the Equality Authority Website.

We are looking for assistance in identifying individuals who are happy to tell their stories. We have appointed a person who will conduct the interviews and put the stories together.
